2019 NFL Draft: Predicting every former Longhorn drafted
Similar to what Omenihu did coming out of the Texas football program for the Senior Bowl, former senior starting tight end and team captain Andrew Beck saw his 2019 NFL Draft stock rise from his performance in the East-West Shrine Game. What Senior Bowl and Shrine Game workouts can do for an unheralded prospect like Omenihu or Beck is very underrated.
The draft process following those events, like the Pro Days and NFL Combine, get all the attention since those are much closer to the 2019 NFL Draft itself. That’s when the hype starts building. But, Beck’s hype was actually building since the end of the Shrine Game since he showed that he can be more capable and versatile at tight end than most in the national media figured previously.
Most would slot Beck as a blocking tight end that would have to make an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent. He did have a career year as a receiving tight end this past season. That rise along with his showings in the Pro Day and Shrine Game should be enough for him to be the first former Longhorn off the board in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
