What happened in the 2019 NFL Draft

There were only two players selected from the Longhorns in this draft class in any of the three days of the actual event. Those two former Texas standouts that were actually selected in the 2019 NFL Draft included the reigning Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Charles Omenihu and cornerback Kris Boyd.

Omenihu went in the fifth round of the draft to the in-state Houston Texans. It should be a natural transition for Omenihu to play for the Texans. He’s going to be suiting up for a team that is in close proximity to his hometown and gets to join a solid group of talent in the Houston front seven.

Both Boyd and Omenihu will have former Longhorns teammates on the same team with them at the next level. That is a factor that can definitely help ease the adaption that comes with living life as a rookie in the NFL. Omenihu will have former All-Big 12 and Heisman contending running back D’Onta Foreman with the Texans.

And Boyd will have the pair of former Texas defensive backs with Holton Hill (2018 undrafted free agent) and Duke Thomas (brought over from the San Antonio Commanders in the Alliance of American Football) to go along with him.

After Boyd and Omenihu, the Longhorns had a double-digit number of undrafted free agents signed from this ultimately underwhelming rookie class.
