Texas Football: Biggest future schedule additions slated lately
What else was scheduled
Facing Florida and Arizona State were the two biggest non-conference future series scheduled during the month of April, and with good reason. Florida and Arizona State each had their fair share of nationally prominent results on the gridiron within the past two decades. Granted Florida is a solidified blue blood and Arizona State is not.
The Longhorns solidified the matchups against Group of Five opposition like the UTEP Miners and UTSA Roadrunners for a combined eight meetings in the regular season between 2024-2031. Those matchups that are currently scheduled can always change around the Group of Five, but these are relevant geographic matchups for both programs.
A report was released on May 10 that the Longhorns would withdraw from another non-conference matchup against a big Group of Five schools in the South Florida Bulls in the future. USF was slated to face Texas in 2020 and 2024. But, Texas wound up pulling out of the 2024 matchup, which cost the program $1.9 million.
There is still one non-conference matchup remaining for Texas against former head coach Charlie Strong and USF, which will take place in 2020. The 2020 season will also include UTEP and LSU during the non-conference slate. Two of those three matchups will come on the Forty Acres, with LSU hosting Texas in Baton Rouge in 2020.
