How the Texas football schedule currently stacks up

Discussing the schedules in college football at this point of the off-season is always a fun way to get through the long summer months before the upcoming regular season arrives. Texas football has a loaded front half of its 2019 regular season schedule, including hosting LSU on the Forty Acres and the Big 12 opener at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Get through the first four games of the 2019 campaign, and the Longhorns could be in good position to make a run at the program’s first ever berth in the College Football Playoff. Texas was in position to compete for a spot in the Playoff up until last year’s road matchup against Oklahoma State. But, it was the season-opening loss to the Maryland Terrapins that really sealed the Playoff fate for the Longhorns.

The other key games to watch on the slate for the Longhorns this fall includes the annual Red River Showdown against the Sooners at the Texas State Fairgrounds and the original Cotton Bowl and traveling to face the Iowa State Cyclones and TCU Horned Frogs in Big 12 play.

The teams that could be competing with Texas and Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championship this year includes Iowa State, TCU, and Oklahoma State. The Kansas State Wildcats, Baylor Bears, and West Virginia Mountaineers, could be players but will have a hard time rebuilding their respective rosters after some heavy losses this off-season.
