Texas Football: 7 teams we’d love to see Longhorns face in 2019
6. Houston Cougars
Not all of the teams on this list sit here due to the fact that Texas football fans would love to see their team face blue bloods year in and year out. Sometimes, fans of the Longhorns would love to see their team take on the opposition of a former Big 12 coaching foe and a strong in-state Group of Five program like the Houston Cougars.
There’s so much to like about what a Texas-Houston showdown would bring to the table at the outset of the regular season. Herman would get to coach against his former team, and former West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen would be on the opposite sideline.
Moreover, the Cougars bring back a very solid roster on both sides of the ball. Outside of losing former All-American defensive tackle Ed Oliver to the 2019 NFL Draft, Houston will be very solid on both sides of the ball. Landing Holgorsen from West Virginia will just be a boost to the effectiveness and entertainment factor for Houston’s offense.
The mainstay that would be fun to watch between the Cougars and the Longhorns would be the quarterback battle. Houston has a Heisman contender that’s a dark horse coming out of the Group of Five in D’Eriq King, who would likely give a lot for the opportunity to face up against Ehlinger and the Longhorns.
