Texas Football: 7 teams we’d love to see Longhorns face in 2019
5. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Very rarely do you get two blue bloods that were huge rivals in Texas football and the Nebraska Cornhuskers that only met 14 times in each program’s history, while also playing in the same conference for more than a decade. Texas does own the series edge over the Huskers by a mark of 10 wins to just four losses.
There’s a good reason why Nebraska wouldn’t want anything to do with the Longhorns anymore since that entire school bolted from the Big 12 to join the Big Ten almost a decade ago. Nebraska didn’t seem to agree with the balance of power in the Big 12, especially after the Longhorn Network launched.
However, that doesn’t matter at this point since Texas and Nebraska both have respective head coaches that have their programs on the rise nationally. Nebraska is a trendy pick as a dark horse contender to win the Big Ten West this year. Texas is one of the favorites to land a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game for the second year in a row.
What would be so exciting about Nebraska and Texas meeting up now is all the young talent that would be taking the field. And, former UCF Knights head coach Scott Frost would make for an intriguing coaching matchup with Herman. Who would want to pass up on seeing Ehlinger take on rising sophomore signal caller Adrian Martinez too?
