4. Washington State Cougars

One of the more oddball teams on this list would have to be considered one that a ton of Power Five programs in the nation would give an arm and a leg to face. Just because of the head coach of the Washington State Cougars, Mike Leach, this should be a matchup that fans of the Texas football program and just around the Big 12 in general are rooting for.

Leach is the former head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and led them to numerous tight battles against the Longhorns back in the day when Mack Brown was leading the way on the Forty Acres. We could all trace back to that decisive Halloween showdown in Lubbock during the 2008 Longhorns season.

Moreover, Leach did bring Washington State almost to the point of making a big for a College Football Playoff berth last year. He also took a former declining East Carolina Pirates graduate transfer quarterback, Gardner Minshew, and turned him into a perennial Heisman contender and 2019 NFL Draft selection.

Most general college football fans should consider Washington State a worthy top 20 team for this coming season. Not only would Washington State and Texas be an entertaining matchup thanks to two high-powered offenses, the coaching matchup between Leach and Herman would be awesome.
