3. Alabama Crimson Tide

The cliche matchup that most college football fans of quality Power Five programs would want to see their team line up for is against the Alabama Crimson Tide. There are better that Texas football could find, but Alabama is still one of the nation’s top programs that is the ideal model of success for a building team like the Longhorns.

While head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are always a juicy opponent to have on the regular season schedule just due to the potential to pull off the massive upset, this isn’t the most sought after in the Longhorns position right now. Alabama is on the regular season slate for 2022 and 2023, so we won’t have to wait long until this arrives.

Nonetheless, if Herman and the Longhorns were able to unseat Alabama early in the regular season, it would go a long way to moving into the College Football Playoff picture firmly. The same could be said if Texas is able to knock off head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU early this coming season.

What would also be fun to watch is the quarterback battle between Ehlinger and rising junior Tua Tagovailoa and the running back battle between Jordan Whittington and Keaontay Ingram for Texas and Najee Harris for Alabama. Once again, Alabama could be there in the national title game at the end of the road and it will be a treat to watch them this fall.
