Texas football had the unfortunate happenings of losing more than five players just on the offensive side of the ball the the portal this off-season.

At the outset of the 2019 off-season, Texas football had chaotic situations going on in the quarterback and running back rooms. The NCAA Transfer Portal took its tool on a number of big college football programs, including Texas football. That wave of transfers that head Texas football coach Tom Herman saw depart the Forty Acres calmed down of in the past month or so.

There were losses that will be difficult for the Texas football to overcome this fall. Despite bringing in around 10 early enrollees that could help make an instant impact this year, Texas is lacking depth in areas that will be hard to makeup for. Talent is certainly present for Texas, but depth and experience are a different story.

At this point of the off-season, we should be steadying out to the degree where the transfer portal doesn’t absorb more than one or two players. Even that seems like it would be far fetched since the Longhorns are locked in after spring ball concluded and with summer workouts just around the corner.

The transfer portal will mostly serve as a place where later prospects announce commitments after already leaving their former programs at least two or three weeks ago. Most players have their minds made up by now. How could the rest of this off-season shake out in the college football landscape in the transfer portal?

Here’s a look at the four biggest off-season losses for the Texas Longhorns football program that could’ve returned for the 2019 season.
