Texas Basketball Recruiting: Predicting PF Jaden McDaniels landing spot
1. Kentucky Wildcats
We shouldn’t count the Kentucky basketball program out of the mix for Jaden McDaniels. Even with that previously mentioned report from the Seattle Times stating that he was previously down to two finalists with Washington and San Diego State, counting out Calipari and Kentucky hoops would just be foolish.
Kentucky clearly showed a big commitment to building a bond with McDaniels within the past eight months of his recruitment. Numerous visits with McDaniels, whether it be to the campus of the University of Kentucky or from a coach, and the offer coming last year shows the buy-in and the level of success he could achieve there.
The 2019 signing class for Kentucky is elite, but it is lacking talent from the bigs. Three of the five signees in that signing class for the Wildcats rank among the top 25 2019 high school prospects in the nation and four rank in the top 35. But, three of those signees also play on the wing and one is a combo guard.
Rarely will there be the opportunity for a prospect as elite as Jaden McDaniels to carve out a role for himself with a top two rated signing class in the nation at a blue blood like Kentucky. Texas basketball could offer him a similar slotting in the sense of the potential of the frontcourt, but Kentucky should be the ultimate landing spot for McDaniels all things considered.
