The latest huge commitment for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class could make a massive early impact with 4-star athlete Ja’Quinden Jackson.

Texas football landed a big time commitment on June 3 when the announcement came from four-star athlete/dual-threat quarterback out of Duncanville, TX, Ja’Quinden Jackson dropped on his Twitter timeline. This was one of the most highly anticipated commitments that was set to drop within the past three or four months for Texas football.

There wasn’t an overwhelmingly clear sense of who the finalists were for Jackson, but he did have offers and growing interest between top regional schools like the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas A&M Aggies. And the final set of 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions gave an overwhelming lead to land the commitment of Jackson to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class.

Those Crystal Ball Predictions for the Texas Longhorns football program gave them a large lead with 10 expert picks in mind. That is a significant number for those picks. The signs were looming that he was going to land on the Forty Acres with the Longhorns, and that wound up coming to fruition.

Yet, Jackson announced his commitment decision on his Twitter timeline at 6 p.m. CT on June 3. Texas football fans across the country had to be waiting anxiously to see if he was set to become the next highly touted pledge in this 2020 recruiting class. Hopefully, this one sticks unlike the former four-star Texas athlete commit Mookie Cooper.

This four-star Duncanville High School signal caller stands at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds and has a next level-ready set of physical tools ahead of his senior campaign. Jackson could play on either side of the ball for Texas. Since the Longhorns do have a four-star dual-threat quarterback commit already in the 2020 class with Hudson Card, it might be best for Jackson to move to defense.

Nonetheless, a potential position switch doesn’t take anything away from head Texas football coach Tom Herman for landing a top 50 rated 2020 high school prospect in the nation. Jackson ranks as the No. 48 high school prospect and the fourth best athlete.

Since the turn of the calendar year from 2018 to 2019, Jackson didn’t have too much going on officially on his recruiting timeline. He did take a visit with the LSU Tigers and received offers from big programs like the Florida State Seminoles and Virginia Tech Hokies.

A previous report from Horns247 and Mike Roach (paid content) expressed that Jackson could possibly extend his recruitment until the Early Signing Period or National Signing Day. There was a lot of mystery surrounding his recruitment in the past six months.

However, Jackson did shine at the off-season events he competed in. He stood out at the Dallas Opening Regional Combine back in March and did well in his 7-on-7 ball during the late winter and early spring months. Jackson is an agile and strong athlete that ran a 4.6 second 40-yard dash time at the Dallas Opening Combine.

Jackson instantly becomes the highest rated commit for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class. The 2020 recruiting class for Texas now ranks at No. 22 in the nation and second in the Big 12. Texas jumped the Oklahoma State Cowboys and TCU Horned Frogs in the Big 12 2020 recruiting class rankings. This is a massive get for Texas after a long dead period on the recruiting trail.
