3. Defensive Line

Bunching the entire Texas football defensive line together into one position group looks at this from the highest overview of any on the list. While the defensive line is broader than most fans would consider one position group to be, the system ran under defensive coordinator Todd Orlando does warrant it a bit.

Orlando runs a 3-4 scheme that doesn’t put too much emphasis on either the defensive ends or the defensive tackles. More emphasis falls on the linebackers and defensive backs since they can be left out on an island most plays. But that doesn’t take away from the emphasis that the Longhorns should put on a talented line this year.

Texas does lose a lot on the defensive line, but there are experienced pieces lying in wait to take over the vacant starting roles. Rising senior defensive end/edge rusher Malcolm Roach is a good place to start with the defensive line. Roach moved from B-Linebacker to the defensive line during the off-season.

Roach will be joined by rising junior Ta’Quon Graham opposite him at defensive end and rising senior defensive tackle Gerald Wilbon next to him. The highlights behind Graham, Roach, and Wilbon, will be third-year defensive end Marqez Bimage and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Keondre Coburn.
