1. Wide Receivers

This Texas football team is going to be run by the safeties and wide receivers in terms of pure depth this year. Quarterback does command respect with Ehlinger behind center, but he wouldn’t be in store for as solid of a 2019 campaign without all the talent he’s got around him at wide receiver.

Ehlinger will be working with rising senior wide receivers first like Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay. Those two senior standouts could be looking at 2,000+ receiving yards when it’s all said and done this year if all goes as planned. But Johnson should be the alpha-dog in this situation more so than Duvernay.

Johnson will be the Longhorns big time threat on the outside while Duvernay will work the inside and intermediate routes. This could be a breakout campaign for Duvernay, though. He just got over the 1,000 receiving yard mark for his three-year career with Texas last season. Getting over 1,000 yards this season individually would be a big jump for him.

Losing McCoy and having former five-star Cuero wide receiver 2019 signee Jordan Whittington move to running back in spring camp does hurt the standing of this position group a bit. But we can’t overlook the depth behind Duvernay and Johnson with guys like Brennan Eagles, Jake Smith, and Joshua Moore ready to step up and make an impact.
