An important recruiting weekend for Texas football with a number of visitors on campus for Heat Wave could bring positive results soon.

The 2020 and 2021 Texas football recruiting classes hosted a bulk of key targets on campus over the weekend for the annual Austin pool party and official visits, known as the Texas Heat Wave. Texas football made this annual pool party, and just a big weekend for official visitors, well known across the recruiting world.

It’s very possible that a couple of the prospects that were in Austin in the past four days were just there for the pool party and that’s it. But if that’s what Texas has to do to keep the high school prospects and top tier talent rolling onto campus to visit and keep lines of communication open, so be it.

All in all, Texas football recruiting hosted more than 20 prospects from the cycles between 2020 and 2022. Texas confirmed two 2022 prospects visiting over the weekend. Most of the visitors were made up of 2020 and 2021 high school prospects, some of which are current Texas commits (e.g. three-star running back Jaden Hullaby and four-star wide receiver Quaydarius Davis).

The big theme of the weekend for Texas was the recruiting connection between Austin and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The DFW Metroplex was a recruiting headdache at times for head Texas football coach Tom Herman in the past. Entering the summer, Herman finally got the momentum going in DFW. He’s landed three prospects out of the Metroplex (or close to it).

Davis went along with four-star Duncanville High School athlete Ja’Quinden Jackson and four-star John Tyler High School athlete/cornerback Kitan Crawford in committing to Texas in the past 30 days. Davis is a 2021 prospect and Jackson and Crawford are both members of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class.

Here’s a look into my thoughts and takeaways from a big recruiting weekend during the Texas Heat Wave for the Texas Longhorns football program.
