Texas Football: 3-Star DE Jalen Logan-Redding would boost pass rush
A promising target of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, 3-Star DE Jalen Logan-Redding, named this school in his top four yesterday.
Each and every Texas football recruiting class tends to value three-star defensive ends as long as they have good physical tools. Texas football proved time and time again that it can develop three-star prospects with four or five-star potential. The next target up to hit social media lately with the 2020 Texas football recruiting class in mind is three-star weak-side defensive end Jalen Logan-Redding.
On June 26, Logan-Redding dropped his four finalist schools on his Twitter timeline. The Texas Longhorns football program fell among the Kansas Jayhawks, Mizzou Tigers, and Oklahoma State Cowboys in his four finalists. Texas football is by far the biggest program, and most storied, among that group.
However, this 6-foot-4 and 235 pound standout edge rusher brings excellent length and quickness to the table. It could just be a short matter of time before the national recruiting prospect rankings get him higher up than he is now. The Rock Bridge High School rising senior is rated as the No. 700 2020 high school prospect in the nation and the No. 26 weak-side defensive end.
Both Rivals and 247Sports seem to have Mizzou favored as the landing spot for Logan-Redding. That makes sense since he is a native of Columbia, MO. But Texas hosted Logan-Redding on campus for Heat Wave last weekend and he seemed high on the program after.
He also took unofficial visits with both the Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies on the same weekend back in March. Those unofficial visits with Texas and Texas A&M came back on March 29 and 30.
With three Big 12, and one current SEC and former Big 12, programs included in the finalists for Logan-Redding, Texas could be in play the entire way. If Logan-Redding keeps his commitment decision open until this coming regular season, then results on the field could be more than enough than head Texas football coach Tom Herman to win over his interests.
What Logan-Redding would do for this defense is provide a potential two-year starter that has a high ceiling for being rated as just the No. 700 prospect in the nation and a three-star defensive end. He’s very quick off the line and has a motor that never stops.
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class is still yet to land a defensive commit, unless four-star athlete Kitan Crawford plays on that side of the ball. Crawford could play at cornerback, wide receiver, or running back. But Logan-Redding would be a huge spark for the Texas defensive line, and pass rush specifically, if he lands on the Forty Acres.
