
A good group of seven commits for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class isn’t really getting it done in the Big 12 rankings.
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class has good pieces in place to establish the foundation for this cycle. But four competing schools in the Big 12 are beating out that Texas football recruiting class in terms quantity. The Oklahoma Sooners have a case for superiority over Texas right now in terms of quality and quantity too.
However, head Texas football coach Tom Herman proved in the past that he can out-recruit pretty much every other program in the Big 12 on a consistent basis. There’s reason to believe he could do the same again for his 2020 recruiting class.
At this moment, Texas would have to pass the Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kansas Jayhawks, and Kansas State Wildcats to sit at the top of the Big 12 recruiting rankings. But Kansas, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State are only beating out Texas in terms of quantity of 2020 commits right now, they’re not winning by way of averaging ranking of the individual prospects.
Texas also has a number of quality four and five-star 2020 high school prospects in sight. The months of July and August could be big for Texas. There could be a big drop of commitments after the Elite 11 and Opening Finals conclude.
A late surge from the Iowa State Cyclones also made a push past Texas in the Big 12 recruiting class rankings. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class ranks at No. 40 in the nation as of July 3.
