A mostly dead period of the offseason has plenty to look for under-the-radar for the Texas football program in summer workouts.

With the 2019 offseason dwindling down during the summer months, Texas football sits in the midst of summer workouts for a little while longer. The Texas Football Twitter page constantly keeps fans in the loop with clips and scenes from the team hitting it hard during summer workouts.

Most of the players that need to make the most progress in summer workouts are of course younger pieces of this Texas football roster. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman will still be working with a lot of youth in this group in 2019. He underwent heavy starter losses on both sides of the ball this offseason.

Perhaps the most underrated portion of college football’s offseason each and every year is summer workouts. This is the time that Texas strength and conditioning coach Yancy McKnight can go to work with all of the younger players in this program and get them to where they need to be for the upcoming season.

Since the bulk of each signing class for Texas makes their way to the Forty Acres ahead of summer workouts, McKnight gets to work with the complete group of incoming freshmen now. Early enrollees do get a leg up in spring camp, but they get the complete picture during the summer months.

There’s a host of Texas first and second-year players that have a long way to go before they have their bodies ready for the punishment that a full college football season brings. A lot are also recovering from various high school injuries and stingers from spring ball, among others.

Here’s a look at the five most important players to watch for the Texas Longhorns football program during summer workouts.
