Quarterback: Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma

This is a Heisman showdown where both quarterbacks are going to meet on the field in the Red River Showdown between Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners. Former Alabama Crimson Tide transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts should be the set in stone starter this year for Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley.

Hurts is an underrated passer who has more than 70 career total touchdowns from his time under head coach Nick Saban at Alabama. The numbers that Hurts could be in line to produce this coming season is what might give him an edge over Ehlinger. Oklahoma does in fact have the last two Heisman winners as former starting quarterbacks.

Where Sam Ehlinger holds an edge

The Longhorns do have more of an emphasis on excelling on both sides of the ball and letting the quarterback scramble. Ehlinger does still have a chance to get more rushing touchdowns than Hurts this fall. The main point for Texas to get Ehlinger beyond Hurts in the Heisman race would be just winning the Big 12 and beating them in the Red River Showdown.
