Texas Football: Two-deep 2019 offensive depth chart
Tight End Starter: Cade Brewer, Redshirt Sophomore
Losing former Texas football senior captain and starting tight end Andrew Beck is going to be a detriment to this position. Beck actually took a lot of college football fans by surprise by contributing a decent amount to the passing game with nearly 300 receiving yards and two touchdown catches.
This year, Texas has a 6-foot-4 and 250 pound tight end that could have a higher ceiling as a pass-catcher but isn’t as much of a sure thing as a blocker with redshirt sophomore Cade Brewer. Getting stuck behind Beck on the depth chart and injuries held Brewer back to playing in just two games during his true sophomore campaign.
Backup: Brayden Liebrock, Freshman
Depth and inexperience are also the name of the game for the Longhorns in 2019. Texas has a lot of options that could all have a lot of promise, but the most solidified option is Brewer. Behind Brewer, we should anticipate the agile and sure-handed true freshman tight end Brayden Liebrock to get the most targets.
Depending on the situation and offensive package that the Texas offense is running at the time, Herman should switch between Liebrock mostly in passing plays and redshirt freshman Reese Leitao in running plays. Also watch out for true freshman and early enrollee Jared Wiley to get early playing time when Herman needs a more capable blocking tight end in the game.
