Left Tackle Starter: Sam Cosmi, Redshirt Sophomore

A linemen for Texas football that doesn’t seem to be commanding enough respect this offseason is redshirt sophomore left tackle Sam Cosmi. The 2018 Freshman All-American was the surprise linemen amid a very experienced starting group last season. He’ll sit among the more experienced starting linemen this year.

If there is any linemen that Texas needs to hold up this fall health-wise, it is Cosmi. There are numerous young and potent linemen that sit in waiting behind him on the depth chart. But there isn’t anyone proven. Although, it would be nice to see Cosmi take another step forward in his run blocking this coming season.

Backup: Rafiti Ghirmai, Redshirt Freshman

The move for the Longhorns along the offensive line now should be to start giving the second and third-year former highly touted recruits more playing time in limited spots. This is where redshirt freshman offensive tackle and former four-star recruit Rafiti Ghirmai comes into play. A high motor linemen with an NFL ceiling is always worth more looks.

Ghirmai put on a lot of size since he originally joined the Longhorns as part of the 2018 signing class. He now stands at 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds and could be even bigger coming out of summer workouts. Where Ghirmai needs to improve is his fundamentals and footwork off the line of scrimmage.
