Picking the most hated Sooners of the recent years in memory for fans of Texas football is difficult to do since they are just so many options. On the defensive side of the ball, it’s much more challenging to pick those players too. Oklahoma just wasn’t a very capable defensive team under Riley’s direction or under former head coach Bob Stoops.

The Longhorns do usually hold the edge in the defensive department, regardless of who the coaching regime is under at the time. Yet, in the No. 9 spot I am going with the former Oklahoma linebacker Teddy Lehman on the most hated players of all-time list.

In 2001, Oklahoma and Texas were both looking to be BCS National Championship and Big 12 Title contenders. Red River made a big difference for who showed up in the Big 12 Championship Game out of the South Division. But it was Lehman that sealed the deal for Oklahoma to walk away with the 2001 Red River victory by the final score of 14-3 with what was almost a game-winning interception return.

Lehman seemed like the classic case of a linebacker who was one that Longhorns fans love to hate. Since he was a good linebacker that made a big impact during his three years in Norman in the Red River Showdown, he’s also easy to remember.
