2. New faces, new expectations

There wasn’t so many new faces representing the Texas football program or other steadier programs of late like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or TCU, but the Big 12 had a lot of new figures around media days in general.

One of the first coaches to take the stand at Big 12 Media Days on July 15 is the first-year head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders (formerly with the Utah State Aggies) Matt Wells. In 2019, Wells is looking to take Texas Tech to a new level with a rising sophomore quarterback, Alan Bowman, that is apparently fully healthy and ready to go.

Oklahoma even has a new starting quarterback that made an appearance in a College Football Playoff National Championship Game twice beforehand that will bring a lot of valuable experience to the table. Former Alabama Crimson Tide graduate transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts had plenty of attention on day one of Big 12 Media Days.

The other noteworthy new faces at Big 12 Media Days included first-year head coaches like Neal Brown at West Virginia and Les Miles at Kansas. Miles isn’t a completely new face in the Big 12 as he coached Oklahoma State prior to taking over with the LSU Tigers.
