2. Lone Star Showdown revival hype continues

The annual offseason tradition between Texas football and the Texas A&M Aggies involves who’s fault it is that the Lone Star Showdown is no longer played year in and year out. Herman spoke his mind on it at Big 12 Media Days, as did Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher and star quarterback Kellen Mond at SEC Media Days.

In reality, if Texas A&M was still playing in the Big 12 instead of jumping ship back in 2012 for the SEC, the Lone Star Showdown would still be played annually. But the blame constantly jumps back and forth between both fan bases, so the question for Herman and the Longhorns was sure to surface at Big 12 Media Days.

Herman did state that he “would love” to see the rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M return and that it is a “great thing for the state of Texas”. Everyone should feel that way, but both administrations need more than the feeling of wanting to see these two rivals to meet on the gridiron again to actually make it happen.

There are legitimate signs of hope for the Longhorns and Aggies to at least meet on the gridiron some time in the next 15 years from this offseason. Both Mond and Fisher saying they want it to return along with Herman wanting it back could slightly help. Texas and Texas A&M are also set to meet in non-conference play in this coming college basketball season.
