Texas Football: Comparing Keaontay Ingram among top Doak Walker RB’s
The final running back on this list was difficult to come up with. But it’s hard to imagine that anyone could one-up the Oklahoma Sooners and redshirt sophomore running back Kennedy Brooks if he stays healthy throughout the 2019 campaign.
Brooks registered 8.9 yards per carry on more than 1,100 total yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns as freshman. If head coach Lincoln Riley puts more of an emphasis on giving Brooks a heavier workload with the Oklahoma offense this coming season, it will be scary with what production he could show.
I am also working off just one season of work for Brooks. Texas football could even play a role in limiting what he and the Sooners are able to do this fall, as could Ingram individually. Texas should feel confident about what Ingram brings to the table comparatively to Brooks.
Where Ingram could hold the edge:
The Oklahoma running back room tends to be a revolving door thanks to the fast-moving and wide open offense Riley runs. That also leaves the Oklahoma running backs prone to injury concerns. Brooks also didn’t have a smooth transition this offseason. There’s multiple avenues where Ingram could hold the edge here.
