A dormant rivalry that is going on nearly a decade now without the two teams playing has to be upsetting for both Texas football and Texas A&M.

It’s not just the Texas football program and its fans that could feel like the hated rival Texas A&M Aggies have annoying tendencies. It’s the fan bases for both the Texas Longhorns and the Aggies that have qualms with each other in an obvious way. From an outside view, both Texas and Texas A&M won’t be well-liked for other college football fan bases.

A list of the 10 most hated college football programs in the nation in 2018 from 247Sports showed where the Longhorns and Aggies fall in line in this regard. Texas A&M ranked as the No. 7 most hated fan base in the nation last year and Texas ranked one spot ahead at No. 6.

There are clearly parts of both fan bases that will irk others. But Texas A&M has the tendency to get under the skin of only Texas, even though the Lone Star Showdown is going on eight years of being a dormant rivalry. Texas A&M needs to get a grip on the reality of playing in the SEC and finally use their vast alumni network and abundant resources to finally find success on the field.

Texas fans are tired of hearing about how three down years under former head coach Charlie Strong made a big enough difference to make the Aggies more relevant in the entire history of both programs. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher have these programs on the right track. But Texas could be on the up and up much faster than Texas A&M.

Here’s a look into the five things that fans of the Texas football program (and for other college sports) hate most about the Texas A&M Aggies and their fan base.
