4. Inherent “little brother” syndrome

There aren’t many rivalries across the college football landscape that have the same dynamic as Texas football and Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown. The problem is that these two fan bases, and just college football fans in general, don’t get to enjoy the rivalry getting played on the field anymore.

Yet, the qualm that the Longhorns should have here with the Aggies builds off the first point on this list. Texas A&M seemingly thinks that it is on an equal playing field to the Longhorns. That is just not true. Any excuse that the Aggies can find to try and one-up the Longhorns is something that the fans will run with on social media and in actual conversation.

A perfect example of this fact was the Bru McCoy recruiting saga between the Longhorns and USC Trojans. When McCoy chose to take his talents back to USC, it was actually a big deal for the Aggies on Twitter that they rise back above the Longhorns in the 2019 national class rankings.

At this point of the offseason, it just doesn’t matter who finished where in the recruiting rankings in terms of actual adjustments. McCoy landed with the Longhorns prior to National Signing Day so the rankings could still be adjusted. It was after spring camp that McCoy went back to USC.

All of the little brother syndrome for the Aggies could be housed in the fact that the all-time series record for the Lone Star Showdown falls in the Longhorns favor 76-37 (there are also five ties).
