2. More on the unoriginal tradition and spirit

I didn’t even get to mention the qualms that other football fan bases should have with the Aggies and their so called original traditions like the “Home of the 12th Man” claim. According to a 1912 issue of “The Iowa Alumnus”, loyal spirited Iowa Rooter powered the now-known Hawkeyes onto a victory at home over Illinois in 1903.

Even the 12th Man tradition for the Aggies isn’t original from the heralded E. King Gill story. Most Texas A&M fans probably don’t even know the story about the Iowa Rooter and the fact that the Iowa Hawkeyes could claim that tradition originally over the Aggies.

However, Texas A&M just doesn’t have all that much success on the field to lean on or original traditions that are memorable on a national basis.

Is Kyle Field electric and loud before the Aggies take the field on any given Saturday in the fall? Sure.

Does it matter that their biggest tradition isn’t even original to their school and football program? Absolutely.

Texas doesn’t really have a tradition that is as weird or unusual (or unoriginal) as quite a few of the staples for Texas A&M fans. The Midnight Yell, Corps of Cadets, and Elephant Walk can be viewed as just flat out weird. Yet, this is what Aggies cling to for the pride of their football program.
