Texas Football: Ranking 5 best Longhorns since 2000
The fortunes for the Texas football program could be picking back up now. But who are the five best players for this program since 2000?
Any blue blood program that has the amount of success that Texas football did since the turn of the century will have a lot of talent that rolled through campus in the past 19 years. The Texas football program went through two BCS National Championship Games and won one of them.
The win came over the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl to cap the 2005 campaign with a national title. But the loss came at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide to cap the 2009 campaign and the last true time of contention for former Texas head coach Mack Brown.
Texas did have a bit of a lull in the development of talent rolling onto the Forty Acres within the past eight years. The first nine years of the decade for the Longhorns went much better than the last nine. But the 2018 campaign under head Texas football coach Tom Herman brought that swagger back to the team that was missing for a long time at the end of Mack’s tenure and fellow former head coach Charlie Strong.
Could we see names like rising junior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger and senior wide receiver Collin Johnson appear among the most heralded Texas football players in program history? Or at least in the top 50.
What’s on the horizon for the Longhorns is difficult to predict, but it appears that Herman has this program on the right track heading into the 2019 regular season.
