The early-to-mid 2000’s produced some all-time great Texas football players, not just within the past two decades. But the talent that the Longhorns had rolling in on the offensive side of the ball through the two appearances in the BCS National Championship Games during the 2006 and 2009 seasons featured very special players.

I’ll start here with the former All-American Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley, who had very memorable 2008 and 2009 seasons. He broke through as a freshman with more than 250 receiving yards and four touchdown catches. That success continued a bit for him in 2007, but he didn’t truly break onto the national scene until 2008.

As a junior, Shipley racked up more than 1,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He was able to even one up that in 2009 with 1,485 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. A very talented receiving corps for the Longhorns in 2009 that also featured Malcolm Williams and Marquise Goodwin was drowned out by the production that Shipley brought to the table.

There wasn’t really a down season for Shipley on the Forty Acres. The more than 3,000 career receiving yards and 30 touchdowns for Shipley sits him among the best wide receivers in program history. His explosive senior season allowed him to be voted in as a consensus All-American in 2009.
