Texas Football: Ranking 5 best Longhorns since 2000
There are two quarterbacks that stick out as the ones that will live in the memories of Texas football fans for the long haul. The first that I’ll cover here is yet another former All-American Colt McCoy. There were three absolutely magical seasons for McCoy on the Forty Acres.
Before Ehlinger had his breakthrough sophomore campaign for the Longhorns in 2018, this offense was left searching for the answer since McCoy left campus following the 2009 season. That leaves a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Ehlinger, but he’s handling it well thus far.
However, McCoy was a two-time Walter Camp Player of the Year Award winner, two-time consensus All-American, and one-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honoree. He tallied up more than 13,000 career passing yards, 112 passing touchdowns, and more than 1,500 career rushing yards.
McCoy was a great example of a quarterback that had an electric arm, could make all the reads, and scramble effectively when he needed to. He did have two seasons with frequent interceptions, but he still had a pretty good interception/touchdown ratio. That was about the only qualm for this Texas legend.
