Texas Football: 10 biggest August Longhorns recruiting storylines
6. Can the 2020 recruiting class at a premier wide receiver?
After the 2020 Texas football recruiting class lost out on the sweepstakes for elite five-star Calabasas wide receiver Johnny Wilson to the Oregon Ducks, the focus at this position had to be more urgent for Herman and Beck. Wilson was the most talented wide receiver target for the 2020 class left on the board for Texas.
The options are getting rather thin for the Longhorns at wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting class. Four-star Tulsa, OK, wideout Javian Hester should become more of a priority. But Oklahoma and Georgia are already recruiting the nation’s No. 32 2020 wide receiver coming out of high school.
A rising star at wide receiver for the 2020 cycle that is worth following in the next few months is four-star Temple standout Quentin Johnson. Holding offers from just eight schools as of Aug. 1, Johnson could gain a lot of interest in Texas quickly if Herman makes him an immediate priority.
While the Longhorns recruited one of the best wide receiver signing classes in the nation for the 2019 cycle, 2020 still needs to have one or two go-to options that sign. Johnson and Hester are two interesting targets that already received offers from Texas and could get more focus from the coaching staff with Wilson committed to Oregon.
