Texas Football: 10 biggest August Longhorns recruiting storylines
5. Tight ends galore in the 2021 recruiting class
In the span of less than a month, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class was able to add two talented tight ends that could be fast risers up the positional rankings. The first addition to the 2021 class was three-star hometown tight end Lake McRee. A product of Lake Travis High School in Austin, McRee was the second overall addition to the 2021 class.
McRee ranks as the No. 11 2021 tight end in the nation and could rise to a four-star prospect before too long. But the 6-foot-4 and 220 pound McRee still has room to grow and brings the skill set that would be valuable for the Texas offensive scheme. He’s not the fastest tight end in the world, but he’s sure handed and a solid blocker.
Next up for Texas for the 2021 class after McRee was the lengthy and strong 6-foot-4 tight end/athlete Juan Davis. As a product of Everman High School, Davis doesn’t get to face the best competition right now. But he does look great when he gets the opportunity to face even the slightest of quality secondaries.
Before committing to Texas, Davis only held other offers from the Southern Miss Golden Eagles and Baylor Bears. The lack of exposure and quality film that scouts have on Davis had to lead to where he’s at now. Davis could have the promise and ceiling of a highly touted four or five-star tight end, just not the proven experience yet.
