Other key teams and who got snubbed

The Big 12 had three teams make it into the preseason top 25 rankings for the Amway Coaches Poll. Texas football was one of those teams, ringing in at No. 10. The other two were Oklahoma (No. 4) and Iowa State (No. 24).

Iowa State does have a good argument to be ranked higher here with a talented roster coming back on both sides of the ball. The Iowa State offense will be led by rising sophomore standout quarterback Brock Purdy. The defense had numerous All-Big 12 preseason honorees including defensive lineman JaQuan Bailey.

Oklahoma shockingly ranked one spot ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The top four rounded out with the Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia, and Oklahoma, in that order. That was the College Football Playoff bracket just two seasons ago.

It’s also worth noting that the rival Texas A&M Aggies fell one spot behind the Longhorns in the preseason Coaches Poll, at No. 11.

And the teams from the Big 12 that didn’t make it in the top 25, but did receive votes, includes the Oklahoma State Cowboys, West Virginia Mountaineers, Baylor Bears, and TCU. The Kansas schools were the only two teams out of the Big 12 that did not get any votes for the top 25 in the Coaches Poll.
