Texas Football: 5 biggest stars Longhorns face in 2019
Now, we get to move onto the quarterbacks on the list. But the only quarterback on the list here is the former Alabama Crimson Tide graduate transfer that should be starting for head coach Lincoln Riley this fall, senior Jalen Hurts.
The junior campaign for Hurts under head coach Nick Saban with that vaunted Alabama offense didn’t see him play much of a role in the team’s success outside of leading a few final drives to beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. He mostly took a backseat to Tua Tagovailoa.
The career of Hurts with the Crimson Tide saw him rack up 5,626 passing yards and 48 touchdowns with just 12 interceptions. He also racked up 1,976 career rushing yards in three seasons with the Crimson Tide and 23 touchdowns. He comes to Norman, OK, with a sparkling resume and appearances in two national title games from his time with Alabama.
What Hurts brings to the table for the Sooners will be a new-look dual-threat quarterback that could actually be a more threatening runner than the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray. Hurts doesn’t have the same speed as Murray, but he is very agile and has a lot more strength to roll through opposing tacklers.
