Texas Football: 5 biggest stars Longhorns face in 2019
Wallace and Hurts will definitely be big time stars in 2019 in the Big 12, but no one really comes close to matching what LSU superstar junior safety Grant Delpit will bring to the table this season. Delpit has an argument as the nation’s best player and one of the biggest defensive stars that Texas football could ever encounter.
Any NFL team that has a shot at taking Delpit in the top 5 of the 2020 NFL Draft should go ahead and pull the trigger. And with the speed, range, and football IQ that Delpit brings to the table as the commander of the LSU secondary, he’s an absolute force to be reckoned with.
What makes Delpit even scarier is the fact that he stands at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds. He’s an enormous defensive back with crazy physical tools and athleticism. Last season, Delpit registered 74 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, 5 interceptions, 9 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
It’s hard to argue with anyone that says that Delpit is the nation’s best defensive player and potentially the most well-rounded talent. He excels in dropping back in pass coverage and coming up to the line of scrimmage and blowing up the backfield. He also wreaks havoc in helping the LSU defense to draw turnovers. Ehlinger and the Longhorns offense will have a tough time dealing with Delpit when LSU comes to town on Sep. 7.
