Texas football recruiting hauled in the first five-star commitment at running back this weekend since Johnathan Gray, with AZ native Bijan Robinson.

By far the biggest addition yet to the 2020 Texas football recruiting class came in the form of five-star Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson. This Arizona native wound up picking Texas over the Ohio State Buckeyes, USC Trojans, and UCLA Bruins. Ohio State was seemingly eliminated in the final week leading up to his decision.

The decision from Robinson to commit to Texas dropped on Aug. 2, and kicked off an interesting weekend of recruiting news for this fan base and coaching staff. Texas also landed a commitment from four-star 2021 outside linebacker Derrick Harris Jr. over the weekend and missed out on four-star key safety target Chris Thompson Jr. to the Auburn Tigers.

However, landing Robinson was the biggest need of the weekend and head Texas football coach Tom Herman was able to accomplish that mission. He could continue this wave of recruiting momentum that Texas really starting building last month.

Landing Harris Jr. could also continue to boost this wave of recruiting momentum for Texas. A program that usually sees more recruiting success under Herman during the fall and winter months is making new waves at a great time.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class now ranks at No. 16 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big 12 (still behind the Oklahoma Sooners). This 2020 recruiting class is clearly making progress in the national class rankings fast.

Here’s a look into the three defined reasons why the talented five-star Tucson, AZ, native running back Bijan Robinson and his commitment to play for the Texas Longhorns football program reshapes the outlook for the 2020 recruiting class entirely.
