Texas Football: 5 former Longhorns facing NFL Preseason position battles
Any former Texas football players that will be battling for a roster spot will have to prove themselves in Training Camp and the preseason.
The Texas football program didn’t have its best pipeline of talent showing in the NFL Draft in the past five years. But that trend should change here very soon. The 2020 NFL Draft should have potential first round picks coming out of the Texas football program including senior wide receiver Collin Johnson and senior safety Brandon Jones.
There should be 23 former Texas football players that are suiting up in the NFL this preseason. Although one of those 23, converted quarterback Tyrone Swoopes, could be suiting up for a different team here soon. Swoopes was just cut by the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 3.
The other 22 former Texas standouts in the NFL will be spending their time during Training Camp and the preseason jostling to either improve their skill sets or set a locker room stall with their name on it for the regular season.
Texas will have a handful of starters that are solidified veterans. A good portion of the 23 will are gem finds as later round NFL Draft picks or as undrafted free agent signings.
However, the preseason began in the NFL on Aug. 1 with the annual Hall of Fame Game between the Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos. There aren’t any Texas Exes that were playing in that Hall of Fame Game between the Falcons and Broncos. Most of the preseason action around the NFL will begin later this week.
Here’s a look into the five former players out of the Texas Longhorns football program that are facing the biggest position battles with their respective NFL teams in the 2019 preseason.
