Texas Football: 5 best freshmen the Longhorns face in 2019
The LSU running back room is going to be crowded, but with no major proven options for the 2019 regular season. But Orgreon will have to have some solution in mind to be the starting rusher against Texas football in Week 2. He will probably take a running back by committee approach early in the regular season.
The favorite to land the starting job against the Longhorns should be junior Clyde Edwards-Helaire who racked up more than 750 total yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns last year. Edwards-Helaire doesn’t bring the same level of speed and explosiveness that a handful of freshmen bring to the table for the Tigers.
Two dark horses worth mentioning that could get early playing time for the LSU ground game are a pair of freshmen, Chris Curry and John Emery Jr. In all likelihood, Emery Jr. will be one of the top three running backs in terms of workload compared to Curry.
Curry will be entering his redshirt freshman campaign. He got to play in four games last season with eight carries for two total rushing yards. Emery Jr. will be entering his true freshman season. But he was a part of the 2019 LSU signing class as the No. 13 ranked high school prospect in the nation.
