Texas Football: 5 biggest fall camp position battles
Fall camp has officially arrived and the coaching staff for Texas football will be figuring out the slotting of the depth chart for the next two weeks.
Fall camp arrived late last week for the Texas football program which signals that the beginning of the 2019 regular season is just a few weeks away. Texas football kicks off its 2019 campaign against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at home on Aug. 31. That is followed up by a mammoth Week 2 showdown against the No. 6 ranked (Amway Coaches Preseason Poll) LSU Tigers on Sep. 7 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium under the lights in primetime.
However, the beginning of the month of August brings with it the beginning of fall practices and the excitement of knowing that college football is about to once again end its eight-and-a-half month hiatus. The last game that Texas played in was in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 against the Georgia Bulldogs. That resulted in a 28-21 thorough victory for head Texas football coach Tom Herman.
Texas is hoping that the momentum generated from beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl to cap the 2018 campaign will carry into the beginning of the 2019 regular season. This team has the chance to win three straight by beating two SEC teams if it beats Louisiana Tech and LSU to start the coming regular season.
Before Texas kicks off against those two Louisiana schools this season, the depth chart has to be ironed out in fall camp. Spring camp provided the opportunity for the coaching staff to get an early peak at what could lie ahead. But there was nothing set in stone during spring ball.
Here’s a look into the five biggest position battles for the Texas Longhorns football program to iron out in fall camp.
