What will be the very best that the Texas football defense faces, mostly in Big 12 play, for opposing offenses during the 2019 regular season?

Ahead for Texas football in the 2019 regular season awaits another gauntlet in the Big 12 purely in terms of the firepower that the opposing offenses bring to the table. Year in and year out, the firepower and scoring prowess of the offenses across the board is the staple that the Big 12 is known for.

The Big 12 won’t have the most firepower on the offensive side of the ball this coming season that it ever had. There’s a lot of youth across the board for Big 12 offenses this fall. That could lead to an interesting shake out in the conference standings by season’s end.

However, Texas will have a difficult challenge ahead with a consistent road of quality opponents during the 2019 season. Texas gets two quality opponents by usual non-conference schedule considerations with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and LSU Tigers. Last season, Texas got the Maryland Terrapins and Tulsa Golden Hurricane out-of-conference in the first two weeks.

Facing Louisiana Tech and LSU will be much harder for Texas than Maryland and Tulsa. Yet, Texas nearly fell short to both Maryland and Tulsa last season. Starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger saved his team from complete and total disaster with two clutch drives to cap the Tulsa win last year.

The 2019 regular season will also see Texas take on the Rice Owls in a “neutral site” game at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX. That will lead into the Big 12 opener against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home on Sep. 21.

Here’s a look into the five best offenses that the Texas Longhorns football program will face during the 2019 regular season.
