3. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Facing a high-powered Oklahoma State offense is nothing new for this Texas football defense. It was this Oklahoma State offense that got the best of the Longhorns last season at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater. Oklahoma State averaged more than 38 points per game last season, good for 13th best in the nation, and 500 yards per game, good for 10th best in the nation.

The hope for the Longhorns defense should be breaking the trend of losing to Oklahoma State at home in Austin this year. Oklahoma State has a five-game winning streak at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin dating back to the 2010 season.

But head coach Mike Gundy and his Pokes won’t go away easily this coming season. Oklahoma State will be coming in potentially with a lot of confidence under a new starting quarterback and with an easier non-conference slate. About the only challenge Oklahoma State faces outside of Big 12 play this fall is a road matchup against the Oregon State Beavers in Week 1.

However, Oklahoma State will either be trotting out redshirt senior and former Hawaii Rainbow Warriors transfer Dru Brown or redshirt freshman former four-star recruit Spencer Sanders as the starting quarterback. Sanders or Brown will be surrounded by an elite group of skill position players like redshirt sophomore running back Chuba Hubbard and junior wide receiver Tylan Wallace.
