Texas Football: 5 bold predictions for Longhorns fall camp
Texas football has the talent to put together a top five worthy start to the 2019 regular season if fall camp finishes on a good note.
Grading out fall camp thus far for the Texas football program is difficult to do. Texas football had good run health wise through the start of fall camp, but the injury bug started to take hold more in the past five days. This edition of fall practice is starting to look more like last year’s injury-wise. Texas had numerous injuries to deal with for this week of fall camp.
However, Texas does need the reps across the board to get both sides of the ball in the groove needed to effectively down the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Aug. 31 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Even players like junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and senior wide receiver Collin Johnson need to shake whatever rust remains ahead of the 2019 regular season.
Spring camp and summer workouts can only do so much for Texas to prepare for the coming season. Since the 2019 regular season ramps up so fast for this team, fall camp is a crucial time. But this time also seems to bring more injuries than spring ball or summer workouts. The only major injury Texas experienced in summer workouts was to second-year wide receiver Al’Vonte Woodard.
And spring ball didn’t see any injuries that were all too concerning for Texas. But now Texas will at least be without two key players more than likely in Week 1. A pair of seniors, center Zach Shackelford and running back Kirk Johnson, are both dealing with various injuries that could keep them out early in the regular season.
Here’s a look into the five bold predictions for the Texas Longhorns football program in the midst of fall camp 2019.
