Texas Football: 5 bold predictions for Longhorns fall camp
4. Devin Duvernay starts thriving in the slot
A big move that could happen for Texas football in fall camp is starting senior wide receiver Devin Duvernay out of the slot. If the Longhorns really show a lot of faith in second-year wide receiver Brennan Eagles throughout the offseason. The former four-star wide receiver recruit Eagles always showed that he had insane potential, but that could finally shine through this fall.
Getting off on the right foot in fall camp is the right place for Eagles to get the inside track to a lot of playing time in the coming season. The 6-foot-3 standout outside receiver could be next in line to play outside for this Texas offense once Collin Johnson’s time on the Forty Acres is over next offseason.
But Duvernay’s development heading into his senior campaign should be a point of emphasis in fall camp. Duvernay always had the quickness and agility to make it work out of the slot. He was Ehlinger’s best target last season on inside and intermediate routes. When Ehlinger need to drop it off to a third receiver target, Duvernay was always there.
Last season, Duvernay had his best year in college yet with 41 catches for 546 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He was already quoted saying that he is the Big 12’s fastest wide receiver during the offseason. That confidence just has to translate on the field for him this fall now.
