3. Jalen Green emerges as the top cornerback

Last season, Texas football had the cornerback positions locked down between the senior starting duo that was Kris Boyd and Davante Davis. Now that the Longhorns are without the athletic Boyd and the physical Davis, Orlando and Herman will have to find two new solutions to plug up the defensive backfield.

Three names stick out as to who could win the two primary starting cornerback positions for the Longhorns out of fall camp. Redshirt sophomore Kobe Boyce, and the pair of second-year cornerbacks Jalen Green and Anthony Cook will be battling for two starting spots here in the secondary.

It appears as if Green could already be solidifying a starting cornerback slot for himself. He was the most highly rated of the three aforementioned corners coming out of the high school ranks. The 6-foo-2 athletic corner had little to no chance to prove himself as a true freshman, but that could all change now.

The ideal emergence for Herman and Orlando would have to be Cook and Green. They were the two standout cornerbacks signed in the 2018 recruiting class. They both also showed a few flashes last season and during the offseason that could prove they’re ready for this tough task of starting this fall.
