2. Zach Shackelford

Position: Center

The offensive line was already a fragile position group for this Texas football team entering the 2019 regular season. Texas had a lot of departing starters to replace in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Yet another injury to preseason All-Big 12 Texas senior center Zach Shackelford to the same part of his body that seemingly always gets tweaked is not a good sign. Shackelford’s ankle isn’t doing too well. He was originally expected to miss two weeks of action in fall camp, which will likely make him questionable for the season opener.

Texas doesn’t have much depth at center and would likely have to pull from another spot along the offensive line to fill a void left by Shackelford. The line could draw from a piece like redshirt freshman lineman Rafiti Ghirmai to fill this void.

There’s a good chance that the two most crucial offensive linemen for the Longhorns are Shackelford and the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets transfer guard Parker Braun. But Braun is drawing praise from the coaching staff throughout fall camp and Shackelford isn’t able to stay healthy yet.
