5. 2013

Record: 8-5 (7-2 Big 12)

Postseason Result: Alamo Bowl loss to Oregon Ducks

Few individual seasons in Texas football program history had as many ups and downs as 2013 did for the fans, players, and coaches under Mack Brown. Between starting two quarterbacks like Case McCoy and David Ash, Texas couldn’t find much of any direction on the offensive side of the ball in this eight win campaign.

A good way to characterize the 2010’s for the Longhorns under Brown was the final game in his coaching tenure on the Forty Acres. That final game for Brown saw the Longhorns get dismantled in the Alamo Bowl by the Oregon Ducks by the final score of 30-7.

Along the way, the Longhorns also had disappointing losses at the hands of the BYU Cougars, Ole Miss Rebels, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Baylor Bears. Granted Oklahoma State and Baylor were two of the better teams in the Big 12 and ranked in the top 10 for most of the 2013 regular season.

Texas was mainly shocked by what Ole Miss and BYU did to them in the non-conference slate with two lopsided losses by a combined margin of 40 points. That led the Longhorns to registering a 1-2 record three weeks into a 2013 campaign that actually featured what should’ve been a manageable non-conference schedule.
