Texas Football: Ranking 7 worst Longhorns teams since 2000
3. 2015
Record: 5-7 (4-5 Big 12)
Postseason Result: Missed bowl game
Imagine if Texas football had gone without the huge upset victories it claimed over Oklahoma and Baylor during the 2015 campaign. Since the Longhorns had only four wins in Big 12 play and five wins overall, swapping the wins out for losses against Oklahoma and Baylor would’ve created an absolute disaster scenario.
At least fans could revel in the top 15 wins that Texas claimed in dramatic fashion against the top two teams in the Big 12 that season in Oklahoma and Baylor. But Texas lost to the Cal Golden Bears, Texas Tech, Iowa State, and West Virginia in the process.
The losses to Iowa State, TCU, and West Virginia were hard to swallow since each came by at least a three possession margin. Texas was shutout on the road against Iowa State and was blown out by 43 points (in a 50-7 beat down) against TCU.
Just two wins kept this season from seeing Charlie Strong get fired and the Longhorns manage just three wins compared to him getting one more chance in 2016 and at least nearing bowl eligibility in 2015. This still was the beginning of the end of Strong once the Longhorns lost three of four to Texas Tech, Iowa State, and West Virginia, and missed bowl eligibility.
