A young Texas football team on both sides of the ball could lead to a host of 2019 signees/true freshmen getting early playing time.

Injuries started to look back for the Texas football program for a good while during fall camp. But head Texas football coach Tom Herman appears that he will be able to put it all together in time to get his team ready at or near full health for the season opener on Aug. 31 at home against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

Texas really needs to make sure its as close to full health as possible when the LSU Tigers come to town in Week 2. LSU and Texas should both be top 10 ranked teams heading into that Sep. 7 showdown at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Yet, how big of an impact will the true freshmen make for Texas this coming season?

Since Texas hauled in such a highly touted recruiting class for the second straight cycle, the true freshmen shouldn’t be relied upon as much. On another note, Texas should at least have the talent to have their true freshmen compete at a high level with early playing time this fall.

Texas had a double digit number of early enrollees in spring ball. That could help Herman and his coaching staff come up with at least five or six players that are ready to go in key roles, if not ready to start if the depth is thinner at a certain position. Injuries could also come about when they’re not expected early in the regular season.

Here’s a look into the five true freshmen for the Texas Longhorns football program that could realistically be vying for playing time during the 2019 season.
