All-Time Record: 76-37-5, Texas

If not for being dormant, the Lone Star Showdown would still be the biggest rivalry in terms of how much passion and emotion is put into a game for Texas football fans, players, and coaches. For some reason, the Texas A&M Aggies and the Longhorns can’t shake the hate for each other even though they haven’t faced each other since 2011.

Texas A&M bolted for the SEC West when Kevin Sumlin was the head coach in 2012. There wasn’t even a solid negotiation in sight since the Aggies left for the SEC West. Texas and Texas A&M will meet in a Lone Star Showdown on the hardwood this coming December at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. At least they’ll be playing in a profit sport that means something for the NCAA Tournament.

However, the last time these two teams met saw a nail biting 27-25 victory for the Longhorns. Since the last six meetings in the Lone Star Showdown resulted in a three-game split each way, leaving the rivalry dormant for eight years now hurts both fan bases. Now, the fan bases have to battle it out on the recruiting trail and in weird bragging fights.

Texas does claim a legitimate favor over Texas A&M in terms of prestige of the program. It also has around twice as many victories in the Lone Star Showdown matchup as the Aggies do. We would love to see the Lone Star Showdown rejuvenated more than just about any dormant rivalry now.
