7. Texas Tech Red Raiders

All-Time Record: 51-17-0, Texas

There’s a thin margin between the hate that the other three Big 12 schools in the state of Texas shares for the Texas football program. Vice versa, a team that is an interesting conference foe for the Longhorns of late is the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Texas Tech was really able to make it interesting against the Longhorns in the past four seasons. Texas and Texas Tech split their last four meetings on the gridiron. But this is a historic meeting that the Longhorns mostly dominated. In more than two-dozen meetings dating up to 1985, Texas Tech won just six times.

That span of time also included the longest winning streak in the history of this rivalry, that featured the Longhorns winning eight straight over the Red Raiders between 1958-1966. The longest win streak for Texas Tech in this rivalry is two games. For winning 17 games in the history of these two teams playing, that is a slim bit of consistent success.

Along the way, there were plenty of times that Texas and Texas Tech spoiled either a Big 12 Championship of national title hope for each either. That really came to a head when Mack Brown and Mike Leach were coaching these two respective programs. We should always remember the Michael Crabtree play around Halloween 2008.
